Songs About Birds Lectures

If your local nature group hold an indoor talks programme, please read on to find out about my lecture.

In 2012, I released a CD called 'Songs About Birds', an album of 12 self-written, species-specific songs inspired by birds and birdwatching, in which I try to capture the moods, emotions and landscapes associated with the birds. There are songs about the swift, kingfisher, red kite, starlings at Brighton, gannets at Bempton Cliffs, and more. The songs are folky and easy on the ear.

My lecture features a quiz based on the songs (with a CD prize for the winners), followed by my performing the songs together with my musical partner, Louise Sofield, (performing as The Fairbirds), singing in harmony, accompanied by an acoustic guitar. I intersperse the songs with anecdotes, and involve the audience. I project the artwork of the birds and the song lyrics during the performance.

I would like to think of the lecture as offering something a little different, entertaining and educational at the same time. I charge £40 + costs towards petrol and will donate 20% of sales of CDs to your group. I would be happy to play for a whole evening or as part of an AGM or social event. I am available to play anywhere in South- East England or possibly further afield.
